Alan Reid needs little or no introduction being the longest serving member of the Battlefield Band whilst Rob is usually found looking after the band's sound. As a duo, this is their first recording together and a fine one it is too. Alan's talents are much in evidence contributing eight new songs and four new tunes. Crossing from a White Heather Club style 'Campbell's Sisters' to Rob's re-working of the traditional song 'Bold Grenadier' they neatly dispense with the gung-ho chorus associated with the likes of (amongst others) The Spinners. Predominantly settling on guitar, keyboard and vocal arrangements, Alan and Rob are joined by fellow Battlefield members Mike Katz (whistles) and Alasdair White (fiddle) and the banjo/mandola of Tom Napper for a splash of colour. The nice thing about this album is that cut back to the bare bones instrumentally the songs are able to breathe without the excesses that could so easily have been employed. Although there are no tracks that will really rock you this doesn't detract from what is essentially a well crafted, solid album.
